Start spreadin' the news...
I will be in New York and California this September. It will be a vacation but I wouldn't mind squeezing in some work in between days of eating cupcakes, walking on bridges and hopping on planes and trains.
If you're about to get married and living in New York and California (or other nearby states) and want to schedule an engagement portrait session with me, please email me - suplada80@gmail.com.
If you have friends who are about to get married and living in New York and California (or other nearby states), please send this to them.
I can do digital or lomo engagement portrait shoot. Golden Gate Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, crazy subways, busy streets - my cameras are ready for them.
:)
Shoot Sched:
Sept 14 - NY
Open shooting date for California:
Sept. 25-29

Beautiful Tuesday on an ugly Wednesday
Yesterday, around 6:30 pm, I parked my car outside Astoria Plaza. Being paranoid with spare tire robbers, I double checked my spare tire under my SUV. It was there. Chained.
After five hours of waiting, shooting, waiting and breath-holding (because somebody's breath stinks - no, not Tuesday's) I found myself walking back to the car. I tried to check the spare tire from afar. I had a gut feeling that my spare tire had been stolen. Again.
My guts were right.
In less than 3 weeks, my SUV's spare tire has been stolen twice. The first time, I didn't notice it was gone until our family driver told me.
This time, I ended up making a blotter report at a nearby police station.

Living in a third world country with a corrupt government makes people do stupid stuff. And I know for sure that whoever stole it needs money more than I do - or at least that's how I'd like to think about the situation.
So my paycheck for this shoot will go to my spare tire.
Whoever stole my spare tire - fuck you.

40th Day
I went to Heritage Park at the Fort today after closing the shop before six.
I was late for the mass as expected.
Hazel met up with me at the front door.
"There's a presentation for An" she said.
As we walked in, I looked around the room and it was filled with men in barong and in coat & tie. The women was all dressed up as well. I was wearing my typical everyday clothes. So this is how people in Court of Appeals looks like I said to myself.
We stood for a while and watched the slideshow of her childhood photos. We'd laugh at her mom's narration as she explains how An loves to have her photos taken on the bed of different hotel rooms - in different countries.
Hazel and I would smile every time a funny-posed An photo would flash. She was a well traveled woman. She loves the water - a good swimmer and diver. She loves nature. She was an artist, an aspiring photographer and a really good dancer. She have lots of friends and she was loved by many. She's an intelligent woman and no doubt the life of the party.
Today is An's 40th day. I believe the heaven's gate is opening for her arrival.
Anskoy, wherever you are, thank you for the laughter and friendship. We will continue to remember you until we meet.

This photo was taken during An's rowing exercise along Pasig River. She was the first person to ever trust and hire me to shoot her team.

Tears over lunch
On my way out to the shop today, I saw a card outside my room. It was the card from my cousins for our lola mommy. My mom left it there for me to read. It was the card she was telling Pam yesterday. The beautifully written card - she said.
A little background about my cousins- Nikki (who was 18yrs old then), Nikko (16 years old then, I think) and NicNic (the youngest) grew up with my lola when they were still here in the Philippines. When they migrated to the U.S., lola mommy stayed with us in our home.
Back to the card.
I opened the card while eating lunch...
It was a tri-fold card for her birthday dated 2005.

I read Nikko's letter first:

I find him hilaious as always.
I got teary eyed while reading Nikki's letter. She was the closest to our lola and she really did take good care of her even if she makes fun of her alzheimer sometimes.
When our lola passed away, I was told that Nikki was the one who cried the most. She received the news even before her mom did. She called her mom and told her the news while driving and had to pullover because she was crying terribly. I can just imagine her.
Lola Mommy never get to see Nikki, Nikko and NicNic before she passed away. They weren't even allowed to go home for the funeral because of their visa.
Thinking back about last night, while we were watching mama's interview for Proud Mama - She asked and wonders if who's going to cry the most if she's gone.
I think I know now the answer.
