KI6EWP

Jerry passed his Technician exam last Sunday!! So we now welcome KI6EWP into the ranks of Ham radio operators around the US. I wonder who will get bitten byt the Ham radio bug next? I hear someone is now reading through the Technician Q&A book that we left at Thess' place.

Field Day 2006

One of the first things that happened after I got my ham radio license, was ARRL's annual Field Day, where hams around the US practice setting up emergency communication stations operating under emergency power only.

I made plans to visit the Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association's Field Day Site at the Bayfront Park in Menlo Park, CA. They were operating 3 stations on pure emergency power and a "Get on the Air" also known as the "GOTA" station.

Hmmm, I was pretty sure I had pictures of the VHF/Sattelite station, but I can't find it.

The main station with both CW and Phone operations.

N6DQ, Rick, operating the CW station.

KY6P, John and Steve AD6AB operating the Phone Station.

The GOTA station, with W6WZ - Mike, K6WX - Kristen and her son Christopher - KG6SVI, with K6WEB - Peter doing the logging.

I had fun and it definitely reinforced my resolve to go take my General license exam soon. I just need to practice my CW.

Parking...

Where I live, we havea 2 car garage and 3 cars. And driving a pretty wide vehicle as the RX-330, I sometimes find it hard to squeeze myself in and out of my car after I park in the garage.

So maybe next time, I'll get a BMW that can park itself for me.
