Aperture, the Application
Recently, Apple announced Aperture. A post-production tool for professional photographers. With support for a pure RAW workflow, as compared to having to convert from RAW to an intermediate format such as Photoshop's PSD, JPEG or TIFF. This lets you work with your RAW data as it is. It supports various RAW formats like my Nikon D2X NEF and Canon's RAW formats.
It also inherit's iPhoto's album management abilities, being able to group files by date, project or client among other possibilities. Aperture will also provide metadata support for the various RAW formats from shooting data via standard EXIF to ITPC data.
It also supports iPhoto's book designs and printing, with more formats available, even custom styles! This is one Apple product that will definitely find its way onto my computer.
Mariachi!
What's a Mexican style celebration without a Mariachi Band? Joan and Martin had a quartet play at their wedding reception, outside while waiting for dinner to start, we had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres outside of the banquet hall.
For a slight change, I wasn't the photographer for Joan's wedding, but as usual, I had my camera with me.
Of course, not knowing too many Spanish or Mexican songs, the only thing we could request was "La Bamba!"
Here's how Vivian, Mags and Katrina reacted to the request:

It wasn't only the adults enjoying the music, the kids got into the act as well:

On the road again
It's been a week since I landed back in California, and I'm still on the road. Jetlagged like never before. I've already been to San Diego for Joan and Martin's Wedding, and at the moment, I'm in LA at my sister's place to visit my newest nephew, Jacob! So far, its been about 600 miles of driving already, quickly catching up to the 2 weeks that I didn't drive my car. I've got a few hundred more miles to go before I get back to my home base in Union City.

It's time...
...to fly back to San Francisco. I'm on tomorrow's Philippine Airlines' flight back to the US via SFO. It's been a fun trip, minor inconveniences like getting sick aside, I'm glad I went. Getting sick basically prevented me from meeting up with a lot of old friends, friends that I haven't seen in years! But it's time to head back, and start looking for work again.
Last night was Mike and Thess' first night back in Manila after about 6 years in the US. I picked them up at Thess' parent's place which is conveniently 5 minutes away from where my dad lives. We went to Mike's parent's place to surprise just about everyone there with their arrival. Thess has video, and I have a few pictures from dinner. I'll post the pics as soon as I get back to the US, with my broadband connection.

Wireless in Alabang
Bizu Cafe in Alabang Town Center, GlobeQuest Wiz Wifi service. Not bad at all. Connecting couldn't have been easier, a nice simple web page to log in on and authenticate using 802.11x. Now I'm wireless after about a week of dialup. Not bad at all!
Too bad the Starbucks near my house doesn't have a WiFi hotspot, otherwise I'd be there more often! Oh well.

Ninong
That's what the Filipinos call their godfathers. And this trip, so far, I've been made the godfather to two kids. Marc and Joy's youngest child, Celyn, and Toby and Jen's youngest daughter, Toni, as well.
We promised to be the guiding light in their lives, to show them how to live as Christians. To make their vows to reject satan and love God. Such responsibility. And such an honor.
I've got pics of Toni's Baptism earlier today. I just need to resize and crop them a bit. I will update this post with pictures later.... promise!!

Back in Manila
Yes. I am.
I arrived quietly on PR 105 at 4:10AM last Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005. My dad didn't know I was coming. Heck, even I didn't know I was going until 3 days before I left. It was fun knocking on my dad's door at 5:30AM and waking him up.
A lot of my friends both here and back in the US don't know I'm here. Sorry about that. But things were kind of rushed. In any case, watch this space for more stuff. Promise.
