Toys R Us

Last Tuesday, in hopes of heading off any jet lag, I went off to Palo Alto to search for a replacement for my old point and shoot digital, the Nikon Coolpix 2500. I was weighing my options between two cameras, the Canon S500 vs. the Nikon Coolpix 5200.

Both had 5MP sensors, and good glass. Sizes were about the same. The only thing that stopped me from getting the Nikon was that it used SecureDigital (SD) cards. And I already had quite a few high-capacity CompactFlash (CF) cards. Too bad, Nikon decided to head that way, basically abandoning the fact that all their other cameras used CF cards.

Tough luck for those upgrading from an older camera (like me) to a newer model. Of course, there are other Nikon models to choose from, but I wanted something that was easy to slip into a pant pocket and not look like I was stuffing my pants.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my choice. It's my first Canon camera, and so far, it's been a decent ride. I'll post more comments about the camera as I get to use it... :)
